Why NBA Is Different
High-scoring games require Normal distribution thinking
NBA game totals average 220+ points with normally distributed scoring variance — not Poisson. Using the correct distribution gives more accurate totals edges than hockey or baseball-style models.
Player props are mixed-distribution: high-usage PTS props fit Normal, while lower-count stats like 3PM or BLK lean toward Negative Binomial. Each prop type is modeled separately.
Spread edges are computed from the model's predicted margin — not just ML — giving independent signals on ATS markets that are often more efficient than the moneyline.
